Biography (Long)
Sarah Peterson is a lyric-driven songwriter, artist, and creative collaborator whose work lives at the intersection of authenticity, story, and human connection. Rooted in the Driftless Region of southeastern Minnesota and shaped by a deep love of travel and collaboration, her music reflects both a strong sense of place and a wide-open creative curiosity.

Sarah writes and releases original music as an artist while also collaborating extensively with songwriters, producers, and artists around the world. Her songs span folk, americana, country, indie, pop, rock and cinematic influences, always anchored by thoughtful lyrics and emotional honesty. While she releases music selectively rather than frequently, each project is created with intention — allowing songs the time and space to fully take shape.

Her debut EP, released in 2023, began organically with a single song co-written with Malaysian artist Amrita Soon and Nashville lyricist Jahnavi Goldstein. What started as a simple response to a tree Sarah passed daily soon grew into a larger body of work, recorded in Nashville with multi-instrumentalist, producer, and engineer Simon Reid. The project has since surpassed 80,000 streams on Spotify and marked the beginning of several international collaborations.

Sarah’s songwriting has been featured across a range of platforms, including national television broadcasts and internationally released films as well as many Independent Artist releases. Her collaboration with Amrita Soon on the song “Together” appeared in the feature film Worth the Wait, released theatrically across Southeast Asia and streaming in the U.S. on Tubi. Another collaboration, “Heart of a Hero,” written with Julie Reiner and Billy McDowell and produced by Drew Middleton was featured in the nationally syndicated television special 'National Salute to America’s Heroes'.

In addition to her work as an artist, Sarah is deeply invested in building creative community. In 2024, she launched a series of Songwriter Showcases paired with custom songwriting workshops, designed to support songwriters at different stages of their creative journeys. These events focus on both craft and connection, offering practical tools alongside opportunities for shared learning and collaboration. Sarah regularly curates and facilitates these showcases and workshops, tailoring topics to meet the needs of artists, organizations, and creative groups. This musical series led to the creation of a local songwriting group that meets monthly to share songs in progress and support one another in the development of the musical craft of songwriting.

Collaboration is central to Sarah’s creative life. This collaborative mindset also extends into her work beyond music. Alongside songwriting, Sarah is a trained professional photographer and the owner of Peterson Creative Photography & Design, where she specializes in portraiture, commercial photography and visual storytelling. This background in photography informs her musical work, giving her a strong visual sensibility and a natural understanding of how music and imagery work together — whether on stage, on screen, or within a larger narrative.

While Sarah performs selectively, she continues to release new music and collaborate on projects that align with her values and creative goals. Her work reflects a belief in balance, listening closely, and creating art that feels grounded, intentional, and deeply human.
